Stephen’s first taste of performing was singing in a funk band at the world renowned Jazz venue stephen_rahman_hughes_1Ronnie Scott's in London. Bitten by the bug for performing and music, he joined a youth group at The Albany Theatre, where his first role in Homeless the musical, sparked alove for the stage. He embarked on a life as a performer and trained at the Rambert School. After graduating he dancedwith a wide range of companies such as Yolande Snaith Theatre Dance, Ricochet (Time Out Award), Bi Ma and Charles Linehan Dance and danced in operas at Royal Opera House and La Scala Milan. Stephen became interested in choreography and created his own company Red Rain Dance Theatre. After showcasing his work at popular dance forum Resolution at The Place, he was made an Associate Artist at The Place Theatre. During that time he created several works for his own company and various other companies suchas 4D, Scottish Ballet, Green Candle and NYDC

Stephen is an award winning choreographer, receiving the Jerwood Award for Hedo-scetic (RainRed Dance Theatre), the Peter Darrell Choreographer’s award for Stravinsky's Renard (Scottish Ballet) and choreographed the pop promo Devil’s Nightmare for Oxide and Nuetrino which was on the soundtrack for Tomb Raider and won a MOBO award for besstephen_rahman-hughes_2t video. His work can be seen in numerous pop promos and TV Ads

With ambition, he decided to challenge himself further and tread the boards in Musical Theatre. He landed a role in the UK tour of West Side Story and followed that with the lead roles in Drive Ride Walk at the Bridewell Theatre and as Hardeep (Horner) in an adaptation of William Wycherley's The Country Wife at The Watford Palace Theatre.  Stephen played the lead role Akaash in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s, hugely successful, smash hit show BombayDreams in the West End and was invited to head a showcase on Broadway

Stephen then went on to star, as a principal actor, in the TV show Dream Team. Here he was able to live out another childhood dream and show off his silky football skills as Carl Caskey, a midfield footballing ace. He played lawyer, James, in the screenplay Molly for the BBC acclaimed series Afternoon Plays and has also starred in Trouble in Tahiti and Swinger (BBC). He has made guest appearances in Bad Girls (ITV) and Doctors (BBC)

More recently, he can be seen running around the forests of Eastern Europe, with a huge sword, as Zai, an immortal in the latest Highlander movie, directed by Brett Leonard

His recent accolaides include one of the most viewed TV programmes in Britain, Emmerdale (ITV), where he played, for a season, the detective DI Dasari. To put another string to his bow, he signed a record deal with the critically acclaimed group Teatro. Within two weeks of the release of Teatro's album, recorded together with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, he received his first gold disc in the UK. Among many concerts,which included The Stars of Europe concert, Teatro were invited to perform with a star studded line up, at The Royal Variety Performance for Her Majesty the Queen. Soon after, the record went to number 1 in South Africa

Stephen also enjoys teaching performers masterclass and had huge success teaching a “Bootcamp” in Kuala Lumpur; putting a group of young performers through an intensive 3 week training in acting, singing and dancing. Stephen has continued to enjoy a successful career in Malaysia where he reprised his role as the mighty warrior Hang Tuah in the multi award winning Puteri Gunung Ledang the Musical and followed that by choreographing Cuci the Musical in Kuala Lumpur. Making the decision to follow a solo path, he performed concerts to sold out audiences with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. He is very excited to be working on material for a solo album

Stephen’s most recent project, is the lead role Merong, in the action epic feature film, Malay Chronicles – Bloodlines to be released later this year
